Where Is The Isle Of Harris?

Scarista Beach, Isle of Harris

Borvemor Cottages are just off the A859 road 14 miles south of Tarbert on the west side of Harris and 6 miles north of Leverburgh. The cottages are on the west side of the road where the township of Borve meets Scarista.

Map Of Western Isles

Borvemor overlooks the Island of Taransay, now deserted, on the west side of the Island. To the south-west, the mountain of Chaipaval rises to 365 metres, while to the north, the huge expanse of sand of Luskentyre beach leads the eye to the rocky mountains of North Harris, the highest point being Clisham, at 799 metres.

Map of Scotland

The Island of Harris is covered by the Ordnance Survey Landranger 1:50,000 maps sheet numbers 14 and 18.

There is a Tourist Information Office in Tarbert, where further detailed local information can be obtained.

The town of Stornoway is 50 miles to the North, a spectacular drive through the North Harris Hills and across the Harris - Lewis border at beautiful Loch Seaforth.
